Addiction in Videogames & Social Media

I think addiction is big in today’s society. Although the condition was separated from a gambling addiction recently, it still plays a big part. So many of us are now spending time on social media and videogames, that it’s a wonder that we still talk to people. So what exactly does being “addicted” mean?

Most of us are not addicted, we just play videogames for fun, and use social media to talk to friends, whether they be in real-life or on the other side of the world. Sometimes, we play/use them a bit too much, but not enough to count as an addiction. Maybe we play for 3 hours straight, and that might not be right, but if we play for an hour, work for two, play for another hour, work for another 2 hours and play for another hour. Wouldn’t that be acceptable? If you are addicted, I think you’d know.

What are the signs of being addicted? Well, being reluctant to do things with friends, being angry, anti-social, and feeling depressed. If you’re feeling any of these symptoms, you should try to limit yourself. Get out with friends more. Get your family to monitor and stop your videogame playing and social media using. You might also want to see a psychiatrist if it’s a big problem.

Have you ever known someone who was addicted to one of these things? Or have you yourself been addicted to one of these things? Let us know in the comments!
